A beachfront hotel of two blocks set either side of a garden court — the taller turning a glazed, fin-shaded end to the road and the lower opening onto the sand.
The challenge
A hotel on an exposed sea beach has to give as many rooms as possible a view of the water while keeping sun, salt air and glare off the rooms behind.
The approach
Both blocks are built as a deep concrete grid, each room set back inside its own balcony so the frame shades the glazing, with horizontal louvres closing the openings behind. A planted court runs between the two, stepping down from the arrival forecourt through lawn and pool terrace to the sand.
