An airport lounge at Hazrat Shahjalal built around a single idea — a turbine-shaped column, standing like a jet engine at the centre, that every other surface is tuned to complement.

The brief

Comfortable, posh, neat, chic — these are the senses you expect from an airport lounge. Departure terminals are usually full of hustle and bustle, and travellers look for somewhere to settle just before a long journey; we wanted MTB Air Lounge to answer that need. As you enter, the eye is drawn to a turbine-shaped column at the centre, a massive form standing to resemble the jet engine of an aeroplane. Diffused light and spots highlight its dominant presence without distracting guests. Line references are drawn from the central column out to the surrounding walls, and the furniture colour is kept close to the walls, so that every other piece — the seating, the rustic floor, the surfaces — is designed to complement the turbine column.

Scope of work

Interior design for an airport lounge at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport — a central turbine-form column as the organising idea, with diffused lighting and a tonal, complementary palette.
