A bakery, café and restaurant in Uttara, Dhaka — set behind a black vertical fin screen, with a lily pool between the pavement and the glass.
The challenge
Just 1,615 square feet had to carry a bakery counter, an open kitchen, a dining room, a formal lounge and a waiting area, on a floor lifted above street level.
The approach
A coffered timber ceiling with perforated infill panels runs unbroken across the whole plan, tying the counter, dining and lounge together while the zones themselves are only separated by slim timber fins and glass. Split-face stone lines the back wall, terrazzo tabletops sit on a plank floor, and amber cylinder pendants set the light level low and warm.
