A two-storey bungalow on a waterside plot at the edge of a larger factory estate — a concrete frame infilled with perforated terracotta brick screens that shade every face.
The challenge
The plot faces water on one side and industrial sheds on the other, so the house had to open to the view and the breeze while screening out glare and the works.
The approach
Jaali panels of perforated terracotta brick wrap the concrete frame, filtering low sun and keeping rooms private while air moves straight through them. Behind the screens the section steps back to planted terraces and a glazed first-floor library, and a lap pool sits on the upper deck with its far edge open to the water.
