Shezad Palace Stair — The fire escape reads as a facade sculpture
Shezad Palace Stair — Louvre-patterned steel screen, full height

A fire escape reimagined as facade — a linear, louvre-patterned steel screen that turns the required exit stair on a fifteen-storey Gulshan tower into a sculptural event.

The brief

Passing Shezad Palace in Gulshan, the eye is caught by what looks like a sculpture applied to the facade of the fifteen-storey building. In reality, it is the fire escape. Asked to resolve it, we chose to make something functional, visually interesting and safe at once — drawing line references from the building’s existing exterior and carrying them into linear, louvre-patterned steel screens wrapped over the stairs.

Scope of work

Architectural design of the external fire-escape stair and its louvre-patterned steel screen. Completed 2015.
