A riverfront recreation zone for the New Dhaka extension — a hotel tower of stacked, rounded floor plates behind a low convention hall, with a jetty on the water.
The challenge
A long, narrow strip between a service road and the river had to hold a hotel, convention hall, shops and public walkways without turning its back on the water.
The approach
Parking and servicing are pushed to the road edge, freeing the river frontage for lawn, walkways and a jetty. The convention hall is held low, with an open pavilion of shops beneath it, and the hotel rises behind as continuous curved balcony slabs, planted at their edges and topped by a rooftop activity deck, pool and gym.
