A riverside convention and leisure complex at Mawa — a convention hall, hotel tower, villas and an amusement park strung along one glazed spine above the water.
The challenge
A single site had to hold functions that rarely sit together — conferences, hotel rooms, shops, a fairground and a boat landing — without any one of them swamping the river frontage.
The approach
The plan sets the convention hall and the hotel tower at opposite ends of a low glazed link, leaving a broad lawn open to the river between them. Bronze-toned screens wrap both blocks against the glare off the water, roof frames shade the terraces above, and the amusement park, jetty, villas and pool are pushed to the edges.
