Interior
A knitting factory extension set against an existing CMC LK building — a 170-foot shed carrying a machine mezzanine, with its stair towers picked out in turquoise, yellow and tangerine.
The challenge
Twenty-four knitting machines, their storage and a workers’ dormitory had to be added to a working site, in a shed 85 feet wide and hard against the existing factory.
The approach
Twenty-four knitting machines are lifted onto a mezzanine in three ranks with a storage bay at one end, leaving the ground below clear for movement. Windows are aluminium-framed clear glass backed by a yellow-painted wire mesh set 6mm off the pane; the workers’ dormitory alongside is left in fair-faced brick, with low brick spines dividing the beds.
Scope of work
Architecture and interior design for a knitting factory extension and workers’ dormitory. CMC LK Textile Factory, TO CONFIRM.
