The renovation of a long, deep apartment — reorganised around a stone-paved spine that runs the length of the plan and gathers every room off it.
The challenge
An existing flat with rooms strung along a single deep axis left the middle of the plan dark, and a downstand beam grid fixed where any new wall could go.
The approach
Steel-framed glazed screens replace solid partitions between the study and the living room, so daylight from the window wall carries deep inside. Travertine paving marks the circulation route and timber boarding the rooms it serves, while full-height walnut joinery lines the flanking walls and the existing beams are picked up as lit ceiling bulkheads.
