Mukti Chattar

The concept generated from this background and University’s motto “to create new knowledge and to disseminate knowledge to the society through its students”. The monument therefore is an ABSTRACT, OMNIDIRECTIONAL that signify a contained knowledge bank. Taking abstract form of books, the project deconstructs, breaks and spreads the abstracted book frames in all directions. This gesture metaphorical implies the spread of knowledge and enlightenment.

This abstract form of the monument is taken from the shapes of books stacks, which are essential the receptacles of knowledge. So, the book stacks and form orientation indicate directionality. These splattered forms offer functional multiplicity throughout the landscape in a sporadic manner. On the whole, the landscape is a continuous one that acts as an historical emblem of historical “ধারাবাহিকতা” or “মুক্তির ধারাবাহিকতা    Hence this is holistically seen as a “মুক্তি চত্তর” – where “মুক্তি”       or liberty is in and or the fearlessness. Following Tagore’s statement: “Where the mind is without fear and the ¬¬¬head is held high, where knowledge is free. Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls.”
Therefore, our project metaphorically implies knowledge as power and fearlessness and gives one unlimited autonomy of interpretations of the forms. With light in the center of the Monument, the brightness implies light to all- an enlightenment.

The genesis of the landmark is not JUST on the monument itself; our proposal envisions the surrounding area continuum of the landscape. The monument landscape is a textual landscape at acts as the allegory of a textual scroll. One reads and experiences the Path (পথ) The landscape has sculpted to made this “chattar” a journey to feel and realize the contribute and importance of Dhaka University and our struggle for freedom that Dhaka university contributed to.
