Perched on a contoured site in Barobkundo, Chattogram, the Bird’s Nest is a uniquely elevated bungalow designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape while offering panoramic views and privacy. Spanning 14,380 square feet, the structure responds to the dramatic site forces—bounded by a GM bungalow to the south, a factory to the north, a road to the west, and lush hills to the east.
The bungalow sits lightly on the land, lifted from the ground to enhance accessibility, minimize site disruption, and capture expansive views. Its form is composed of two elevated box volumes, split and unified by a vertical circulation core. This composition gives the building a sculptural identity, with clean solid masses contrasted by louvered screens.
The louvered façades serve multiple purposes: they ensure privacy from the nearby ship-breaking yard, act as a visual buffer, and allow uninterrupted natural ventilation. A striking architectural feature is the bridge that connects the roof level to the eastern hill, establishing a unique spatial dialogue between the built form and the natural terrain.
The Bird’s Nest stands as a modern retreat—an architectural nest that blends solitude, openness, and sculptural form within nature’s embrace.
