A private apartment fit-out — the living floor held open by a suspended timber-and-steel shelving rack instead of a partition, with warm plaster and marble carrying through every room.

The challenge

A standard apartment shell with rooms strung along one corridor had to gain a sense of continuity without losing the separation between living, dining and the private bedroom wing.

The approach

Marble-tiled floors and lime-plaster walls run unbroken from the entrance corridor to the far seating bay, so the plan reads as one surface, while a floor-to-ceiling shelving rack of oak boards on black steel rods screens the second sitting area without blocking light. Glazed timber-framed doors, fluted wardrobe fronts and stone-clad bathrooms carry the same two materials through.
